These youth basketball drills incorporate the whole body to develop dribbling skills.
Full-Body Dribbling Drill: Part 1
For this youth basketball drill, players will practice dribbling motions without a ball in order to get the feel for how their bodies should be positioned.
Have players start in a full down position, bending their knees to crouch close to the ground while keeping their backs straight, heads up, and arms lowered with elbows slightly bent.
This position will help players learn to bend with their legs, not their backs, and practice dribbling the ball with hands close to the ground.
Line players up about three feet apart, facing the coach. Each player should assume the full down position, remembering to keep their backs straight and heads up so that they can watch the coach. The coach should try to use visual instructions as much as possible to ensure players are looking up.
Have players mirror the coach's movements, flicking their wrists to simulate dribbling the ball. The coach should pretend to dribble the ball in a circle around the body in the following locations: back center, right back, right side, right front, front center, (switch hands), left front, left side, left back, and back center again.
The coach should hold each position for ten to fifteen seconds, making sure to correct players who need assistance. If using verbal instructions, coaches should say the hand opposite from what they are using so that the directions correspond to the players' mirrored movements. Coaches and assistants should watch to make sure players are using their wrists, not their arms, to simulate dribbling.
Full Body Dribbling Drill: Part 2
For the second part of this drill for basketball, players will actually use a ball. Again, have players mirror the coach's movements, this time dribbling the ball about six inches away from their feet.
Coaches should start slow and be prepared to chase after loose balls. Once players have mastered this part of the drill, move on to more advanced moves:
Run the drill again, this time moving more quickly. Hold the position for only three to five seconds.
Have players move into the half down position. For this position, they will raise so that their legs are only half way bent, instead of in the full crouching position. Backs should be kept straight, and elbows will be extended instead of bent as they were before. Practice dribbling in the different locations from this position. I say yes! But the employees that worked at the CCE Fort Worth plant that were interviewed were afraid of losing their jobs and report that they were even threatened if any contact was made to the Teamsters or other employees on the subject and some employees were given unfair work loads on a regular basis.
TEAMSTERS PROTECT the employees from these very conditions.
Some companies use these tactics in order to keep the union out by threatening jobs and or making the job difficult to unbearable in some cases and employees believe these threats and continue to work under bad conditions and poor management, for low pay. Aren't these same tactics used in "sweatshops"?!
According to my count of those employees asked, there are enough CCE employees that feel the Teamsters would be the way to go. In fact, all but one of the employees that were asked, were very unhappy and agreed with the above. One said that he agreed with the above but for the record he wasn't going to say anything that might put his job at risk so he stuck to the sunny side of things like, "I'm thankful that I have a job and I can't find another one that pays me as well as CCE". When I asked this middle aged employee, would he leave the company after all these years (over 10 yrs) if I offered him .00 more pre hour and better conditions today, he responded with a "yes" and walked away.

Both the Blue Grass and the Arkansas Derby do not have any standouts, so the best bet is that a favorite will not win either of the races. In Kentucky, will Odysseus continue his upward climb? Will Interactif put forth his best showing yet? Will Make Music for Me finally live up to expectations ? Or will another stranger wander in out of the mist? As we move into middle America, will Nobles Promise finally finish first ?
Will Super Saver show that he needed his last race? Will Dublin return to his form of last year? Will Northern Giant survive his last ditch effort to make the Derby field? Or will another surprise qualify as Cinderella in making it to the big race ?
If you participated in the Kentucky Futures Pools , once again many realized it is a bad bet as many of the horses listed will not make the trip to Kentucky, and, of course, the race is still wide open and the field entry appears to be undervalued. We do not endorse participating in these kinds of wagers, so keep this in mind for next years race.

The faster your defense is at getting the ball back into the offensives hands the more likely you are to win a game. Win your games by training your defense to use a strong tackle that strips the ball from the opponent. This drill practices with two players. Have the defender move up on the offensive player, trust his arms back and then forward with his fists clenched. As the offender runs ahead of the defender, have the defender bring his clenched hands up quickly, and forcefully, as he aims his hand at offenders football. Practice these movements slowly to start muscle memory and to correct bad habits.
Basics to football hand offs
Handoff skills can secure yardage on the field and increase your overall success. The hand off can take place in many ways, but most if not all handoffs occur between the quarterback and the running back. A good hand off starts with the running back giving a target to the quarterback, this can be done in the running back keeping his arms flat against his body, one arm low and the other high creating an open square or target around the chest for the quarterback to slide the ball in. Once the quarterback has placed the ball in the pocket, or opening, the running back immediately clamps down on the ball protecting it and holding on to it. Now that the running back has the ball when he leaves the quarterback he should remain low to the ground in order to react quickly on the field.
Up Downs Conditioning Drill
Up downs is an excellent conditioning drill that will improve reaction time and endurance. Players will start this drill by running in place as fast as they can, keeping their knees high as possible. Then at random a coach will yell, down or blow a whistle at which the players must dive to the ground do a push up and then jump back into running in place. This drill is an excellent workout and should be worked in slowly at first and then increased in intensity and length over time.
Tackling Fundamentals and Safety
It has been stated many times that a defensive teams win games, and the most fundamental part of a defensive team is performing a great tackle. If you, or your players dont take tackling seriously you will not stop the offense and could also cause injuries. Some points to remember when tackling:
First, you need to stop the opponent quickly so make sure to place yourself directly in front of the opponents path. Plant your cleats in the grass squarely in front and in the middle, bisecting the player in half. Also, at this time thrust your arms backward to prepare for the next step.
Second, push your other foot keeping your knees low and bent, and in sync with your feet throw your hands up hard around the offensive player. As your feet plants your head should be making its first contact. Never, ever, ever tackle with the top of your head down, keep it up and square against your opponent. A great way to insure that you are in the right position is to practice touching your facemask to the football of the opposing player.
Third, throw your hips up and hard as you drive the offensive player backwards. Setting yourself up for this last step will ultimately prove the success in the tackle.
